At Willmes, we develop press technology with a clear goal: maximum wine quality through optimal processing steps. The way in which a wine press is filled has a decisive influence on the character of the subsequent must. With pumped grapes in particular, it is crucial to keep mechanical stress as low as possible. With our new central filling system from above, we offer a solution that specifically addresses this requirement and at the same time simplifies the work process in the cellar.
Until now, wine presses have often been filled via an axial feed through the center of the press body. This method can lead to increased pressure on the grapes due to lateral transportation and compaction within the press. This is where our new filling system with central filling from above comes in: The grapes are gravity-fed directly into the press container.
This design reduces the internal pressing pressure during filling and prevents unnecessary crushing even before the pressing process starts. This preserves the freshness, varietal character and aroma of the grapes.
The central feed from above ensures that the grape mass is evenly distributed in the press container. This means that our pneumatic presses start the pressing process under optimum conditions. The result is even pressure distribution and filling of the press without additional, stressful rotations.
We have designed our filling system to be compatible with a wide range of press models - both within our current product lines such as SPHERA, SIGMA and MERLIN as well as with selected older models. The height-adjustable design enables precise integration into different system layouts. Thanks to the lightweight tubular system, the system can be quickly assembled and disassembled, making it particularly practical for intensive everyday reading.
Our central filling system from above is ideal for grape varieties that require the utmost care - such as Chardonnay, Riesling or Pinot Noir. The grapes enter the press without unnecessary pressure, which prevents oxidation and preserves aromatic integrity. The result is musts with clear, varietal aromas and a stable structure.
With our new central filling system from above, we are taking the next step towards even gentler grape processing. In combination with our pneumatic pressing technology, we are creating the basis for musts of the highest purity, freshness and varietal character - with maximum efficiency in operation.
For winemakers who want to preserve the potential of their grapes from the very first second, this innovation is the ideal next step in cellar technology.
